Our Charities

Nourish supports a number of causes we care about, both in Ireland and abroad. You can read more about our chosen charities and sustainable organisations below.

Each year, we donate 20c for every Nourish branded supplement purchased in our stores to causes we care about. Through this initiative, this year (2024) we have donated €5,500 to Focus Ireland's Sponsor a Star campaign.

Everyone has a right to a place they can call home. 87c of every euro Focus Ireland receives is spent directly on services to combat and prevent homelessness.

Thanks to our customers' support of this initiative, over the last seven years we have donated over €15,000 to support Focus Ireland and other charities helping to tackle homelessness, including the Dublin Simon Community and the Peter McVerry Trust.

On behalf of our staff and customers, in March 2022 we made a €5,000 donation to the Irish Red Cross Ukraine Appeal.

This donation helped to support the immediate humanitarian response in Ukraine and help those affected by the needless conflict to get food, medicine, shelter and water.

Please visit the Irish Red Cross for more information or to donate directly.

Give a Vaccine, Get a Vaccine

UNICEF Ireland are working with partners to make 2 billion COVID-19 vaccines available to the most vulnerable families, health workers and high-risk people on our planet.

We supported this initiative in 2021 with a donation of €4,500. This helped to ensure that:
  • Vaccines get to the most remote and isolated places in the world
  • Vaccines are stored safely using secure cold chain equipment
  • Health workers are vaccinated and protected against COVID-19
  • Vulnerable families and children receive life-saving care
This was the largest drive in history to deliver vaccinations globally and we were proud to be part of this movement.

Christmas Jumper Day

Each year, our teams across Ireland take part in Christmas Jumper Day to raise funds for different charities each year.
In December 2022, our store and head office teams swapped their work wardrobe for something festive to raise €500 to support those experiencing homelessness in Ireland. This year in 2024, we will be raising money for The Children's Health Foundation.
The event will help to raise funds that go towards vital life-saving equipment for the wards, theatres, departments and ICU in our children’s hospitals.

RNLI

Like many others in 2020, we took to the sea during lockdown. With sea swimming in mind, we were thrilled to support the publication of A Little Book of Swimming Happiness in aid of the RNLI in Ireland.
This (now sold out) Irish collection of personal swimming stories, poems and photographs was created and published by Catherine Mulcahy.
Selling for €15 inside a number of book shops, cafes and food stores across Dublin,  including our neighbourhood store in Sandymount, 100% of proceeds went directly to the RNLI, raising over €10,000.
The RNLI are a charity that saves lives at sea. They do this through lifeboat search and rescue, lifeguards, water safety education and flood rescue.

Zamda Ireland

Zamda is a registered charity dedicated to providing direct and effective aid to a number of projects in and around the city of Kabwe in Zambia.
The main initiative of Zamda is supporting “Sables” which is a centre for Kabwe’s street children; the most vulnerable children in Kabwe. It offers food, clothing, medical care, emergency overnight accommodation, counselling, education and vocational training for over one hundred and fifty orphaned and vulnerable children.
We began our support in 2016, and since then with the help of Zamda, we have funded the creation of a Nourish Kitchen at Sables. This kitchen has been up and running since May 2017, and was built with the purpose of keeping vulnerable children off the streets to teach them a trade they can take anywhere - cooking. Find out more about Zamda's work here.

Gortbrack Organic Farm

Nourish have been supporters of Gortbrack Organic Farm and their Organic School Gardens Project for many years. Based on a 9 acre site overlooking Tralee Valley in Co. Kerry, Gortbrack is an award winning, innovative centre for environmental education, local organic food training and development and eco landscaping.
The farm has a diverse range of ecological & native Irish habitats, ranging from ponds to wild bog land, wildlife habitats including native hedgerows, woodlands, ditches and stonewalls, to organic vegetables, herbs, tunnels (all weather), composting, willow features, reed bed systems, cabins and ducks and donkeys.
Nourish have been supporters of the activities associated with Gortbrack Organic Farm for many years as we strongly believe in the principles of biodiversity through organic farming and production.
Gortbrack has been instrumental in the development of Organic Gardens in schools. Via a sister organisation KEEP (Kerry Earth Education Project), school gardens across Ireland have been planned and developed, and thousands of children over the years have been introduced to the practical planting and growing of plants and trees.
The book The Year Round Organic School Garden has also been produced with a DVD to support school gardens. Gortbrack has won awards at Bloom with its native gardens. Nourish has also funded a kitchen at Gortbrack which is used in conjunction with their on site training courses.

The Year Round Organic School Garden

The Kerry Earth Education Project (KEEP), a sister organisation of Gortbrack Organic Farm, in collaboration with the Irish Seed Savers Association, has recently published its 2nd edition of The Year Round Organic School Garden as a practical guide for teachers and other education practitioners.
The book aims to help with the planning, design, creation and use of an organic school garden with children and teenagers. It demonstrates the huge possibilities of using school grounds as an educational resource, to learn about organic food production and the importance of biodiversity.
It sets out practical projects on growing local food, creating biodiversity and native habitats in the school grounds, encourages healthy eating, nature-based activities and getting students active.
This 2nd edition publication received support from the Patagonia Environmental Grants Fund of Tides Foundation. Nourish, together with Independent Irish Health Foods Ltd sponsored the printing costs for this 2nd edition. Buy this publication online from the Irish Seed Savers Association.
